I've upgraded to the PLATINUM fountains & while the older style 2 chamber filter still works with these,
when I needed more, I bought the new design with 6 chambers rather than 2.
Since I wash the fountains weekly and rinse the filters in about 2-3 drops of dishwashing detergent (the kind w/bleach) to
about 1 gallon of HOT water, swish it around for awhile, then rinse under extremely HOT water for several minutes,
the old style filters would develop "worn" spots where the filter backing would pill/fray/peel.
The new style is a very tight design that stands up like a champ. MUCH improved! I'm quite pleased.
In all but the hottest, most humid months of summmer, filters now last the 2 months easily with regular cleaning.

This product so far works as advertised. At time the unit is louder depending on how the pieces fit together. I think that with a little better engineering and a few pennies, the unit could be made almost sound proof. My cat loves the free flowing water and she is definitely drinking more. I have noticed that she has become more active since this purchase and she has stopped pestering me to turn on the water in the bathroom faucet

These filters are great. I check mine each time I clean out the whole tank (about every 2 weeks) and only replace the filter when it seems a little slimy. So far, they seem to be lasting about 3 months or so. I noticed in the product instructions that the filters are optional, so maybe you only really need them if you don't have good water. We have NYC water which is excellent, so I don't think there is a lot to filter out anyway.
