My dogs don't even like when I unroll the scatmat and place it on the floor. I probably don't even need to turn it on anymore. It has worked very well and keeps my dogs from getting into places I don't want them to go.

With a genius-level dog who figured his way into our kitchen trash can, no matter the obstacle, he finally met his match with the ScatMat! I wish we had tried it earlier, it would've saved us a lot of time, aggrivation, mess, and failed other options. If you need to keep your pet away from any place, THIS is the product for you! For our standard poodle, we have the setting on "high". Lest you think that this is cruel, I have stepped on the ScatMat a few times in the middle of the night barefoot myself. While it'll wake you up quickly, and you WILL get off of it, it is truly no more painful than a static electricity shock (c'mon, this uses a 9V battery). We love the feature that tells you how many times it has shocked since last being turned on. This way we know that our dog continues to test the ScatMat and isn't 100% "trained" yet.

We have a lot of cats who like to jump on the kitchen counter. After using the mat for 3 days, they prefer to stay on the floor.

This product keeps my cats out of my kitchen and dining room, which is a must for me. It also works on my Pomeranian and Papillon. The shock is no more than receiving a static electrical shock when walking across carpet in the winter. It has 3 settings if your pet is more stubborn, but start out on low. It only took them trying to cross it once or twice and they will not cross it anymore. It was more of an unexpected surprise to them than anything else. No matter what is going on in the kitchen, they will sit at the edge of the mat and watch but will not cross it no matter how tempted they might be. The wires can be delicate, so it is best not to move them more than you have to. Just buy additional DummyMats if needed and they will work just as good once your pet is accustomed to these. If the large ScatMat is not large enough, you can also buy an extension to plug into the ScatMat to double your surface. Our doorway is wide, so this is what we had to do. This are excellent for keeping your pets out of certain areas and to also keep them from darting outside when you open the front door.

My daughter's maltepoo stepped on the scatmat one time and won't go near it. It's great. One of my cats stepped on it, jumped, and then turned around and tried to sneak up on it by carefully reaching for the mat with his paw. Too funny. He has figured out how to get around the mat though. Bottom line is . . . it works great!
